Their simple steps to create a business page, you first need to have a personal Facebook profile. The new Facebook page has to be distinct from your personal page, however and can be managed independently.

Creating a free professional Facebook Page is easy.

  • Log in to your Facebook account.
  • At the top of your Facebook menu, click the down-arrow located in the top right corner.
  • select create Page from the menu.
  • And You can also reach the Create a Page screen by clicking Pages in the left panel menu of your News Feed. Next, you have to click the green Create Page button in the upper right.

Select a Facebook Page Category

While on the Create a Page screen, click the category that best fits your business. Options are:

  • Local Business or Place
  • Company, Organization or Institution
  • Brand or Product
  • Artist, Band or Public Figure
  • Entertainment
  • Cause or Community

In most of these categories, you will find a dropdown menu that allows you to narrow down your page category. For example, with a company page, you can choose a specific industry from the list, such as biotechnology, cargo and freight, travel, and others.

If you are creating a page for a local business or place, you will find fields to enter the page name (such as the name of your business), a page category (such as “coffee shop”), as well as the street address and phone number.

If you are creating a page for a cause or community, there is no dropdown. Simply enter a name in the field. You will see a link that leads to the Facebook Pages terms of use for you to review.
When you’re satisfied with your basic page details, click Get Started to create the page itself.

Add a Profile Picture

One of the first things you’ll do once you create your page is to add a profile picture; the dialog for uploading one will appear next in your page creation process. If you’re not sure what you want to use as a profile picture yet, you can skip this step. You can always add or change your profile picture later.

Your page’s profile image will appear on the top left of your new page next to your business name. This could be a logo if you have one, or it could be a picture of a product for which you’re known.

When you have uploaded the profile image you want to use, click Upload Profile Picture.

Upload a Cover Photo

Next, you will be prompted to upload a cover photo for your page. Your page’s cover photo is going to be the big splash image that appears at the top of your page. This image is going to be one of the first things a visitor sees on your page, so you want something that conveys what your business, cause, or organization is all about. Think to the brand.

As with the profile picture, if you don’t have a cover photo you want to use yet, you can skip this step and add one later.

Your photo size should have a minimum width of 400 pixels, and a minimum height of 150 pixels—bigger is good, but avoid enormous image uploads. Facebook scales the image to fit the screen when displayed. In a web browser on a desktop or laptop, the image will be displayed as large as 820 x 312 pixels, while on a mobile device like a smartphone the size will be 640 x 360 pixels.

After uploading the photo you have chosen, click Upload Cover Photo.

Add Content to Your Facebook Business Page

After your initial setup, you will be able to administer your Facebook Page by adding new content, moderating conversations on it, promoting it, and more.

You’ll probably want to go ahead and add additional content to flesh out your page. There is a secret having a successful professional page is to post information that interests readers, followers, and customers. And good advice is to keep posts on a topic, relatively brief, and friendly.

After your professional page is up and ready for visitors, send the link to your friends, family members, and clients, encouraging them to visit and, hopefully, Like it. Facebook encourages you to announce your page to your friends, and it provides several methods to do so. Making an announcement is optional, but it is the first step in launching your page to promote your new social media presence as well as your business, organization, or cause.

Additional ways to promote your page include:
  • Add your Facebook business page URL to your email signature to reach out to other individuals who may not frequent Facebook often.
  • Promote your page on your business website.
  • Add the page URL to your business cards and letterhead.
  • Use Facebook paid advertising to place ads on Facebook to draw attention to your page, or to promote a specific announcement or post on your page.
  • Post-high-quality content. When someone shares your content, the link goes out to many people, and you want them to feel like their click was worthwhile.
